Teenagers

Teenagers are an important part of our community. They need services designed just for them. At Crossway we cater our approach with teenagers to the needs of each individual teen.

Some respond well to activities and a more metaphorical approach, while many are ready to use more adult techniques. Teenagers are naturally becoming autonomous, but are still closely linked to the leadership of their parents, schools and other authority figures. It is important for teens to feel that their counseling space is secure and private and that they have some ownerships of how the process goes.

Teenagers benefit from knowing that counselors are not another authority figure and that their voice will be heard and respected by their counselor. Techniques frequently used with teenagers include supportive problem solving, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, resolving trauma, stress management, art therapy and other activity therapies.
