Younger Children
Younger children, approximately ages 4 to 9, are often good candidates for our play therapy services. These are some of our facilities at the Crossway Counseling Center.
Play Therapy is a type of treatment that has been well researched and proven to be very effective with younger children struggling with a variety of issues. The basic premise is that young children have not developed enough language or maturity to articulate fully what they are thinking and feeling, but can communicate these concepts metaphorically using toys, art, and various forms of play.
A metaphor is a symbolic representation of something else. During metaphorical play, children project their thoughts and emotions as they complete different activities in the play therapy room. Children love to play so they typically engage very well. While in play therapy, children are not just playing, they are working very hard.
